The CUHK Library Building is a commercial building in terms of the electric characteristics. A great number of nonlinear load were use in the electric system of the building such as the lighting system, computers and the AC system as well. Those nonlinear loads can cause significant harmonic pollution particular in Harmonic Order 3rd. This is because the switch power supply inside the LED lighting and the VFD in the air conditioning system are the main sources of Harmonic Order 3th. A large amount of 3rd harmonic will have a certain impact on the distribution system. During system operation, harmonic currents may cause line overheating, increase the risk of electrical fires, and easily interfere with communication. In addition, harmonics can reduce the power factor of current, increase the proportion of reactive power, and trigger fines from regulatory authorities. To solve the harmonic issue, a reliable active harmonic filter was introduced to the power distribution system of the project.
It's the great honor of Sinava Power Solution to take part in the M&E of the Library Building at the early of 2024. The project request 4 units Sinava 360A Active Harmonic Filter in free standand type to solve the harmonic distortion problem of the building.The specification of the harmonic filter is approved by the famous consultant firm WSP. Considering the narrow space of the power distribution & control room of the Library building, Sinava customized the size of the cabinet in 800*800*2000mm combine with the 4 fans at the back door for heat radiation. Sinava Power Solution install and do the commissioning at the site in May and October respectively. We're glad that 4 untis of the 360A Sinava harmonic filter has successfully serve the CUHK Library building.
